progress, such words as
improvement, achievement, and
success have no meaning."
Fulfillment in life and business comes from growth and progress toward your life's mission and vision. I haven't met a person that was happy with a lack of growth in their life. The same is true for every business owner and employee. Growth is essential for meaning.
Jim Rohn the brilliant business philosopher would always instruct to "Check for Results." Ask yourself, are you on track or off track? Growth is an indicator of a healthy, vibrant and cultivated environment. As a leader, your responsibility is to help create, monitor and encourage growth. So ensure you are not doing the following three things that kill growth.
LACK OF VISION
The proverb teaches that "Where there is no vision, the people will perish." Vision is a critical element of growth, vision gives direction, focus and provides motivation. As a leader you have to cast the vision for the organization, over see the implementation of the vision and constantly communicate the vision.
Most leaders think that when they speak, they are automatically understood and everyone is on board with what has been communicated. Life is full of changes, and changes require communication. If you are a leader that doesn't like to communicate or feel you don't need to communicate changes or obstacles within the organization, you are killing growth. You leave the team to assume, guess or even gossip about what is going on. This type of behavior stunts growth.
James Cash Penny, founder of J.C. Penney retail chain said "The surest way for an executive to kill himself is to refuse to learn how, and when, and to whom to delegate work." No farmer plants a seed and watches over it all day. The farmer will water, observe from a far, and protect the seed from the birds. The farmer knows it must trust the process or system that is in place. This frees the farmer to make plans for the harvest. Every employee needs to feel trusted by their leader. Leaders that have confidence within their own ability will not desire to micro-manage. They welcome the efforts and skills of other team members.
If you want to avoid killing growth in your business, organization or even your family, avoid doing these three growth killers.
